Happy New Year

by Under the Pines on December 31, 2009 · 1 comment

Being a mom for the past 32 years, I’ve spent a lot of time trying to create only Happy New Years for my children. I realized intellectually how impossible this was, but emotionally I still wanted them to have only happy years.  I didn’t want sadness, hurt, anguish, etc. to be part of their lives.   Of course this is impossible and not really desirable, although that was hard for me to type.   What was possible was to help my children develop the tools they needed to deal with the vicissitudes of life.

One of the best tools I’ve found for myself in dealing with troubles  is to realize that my attitude is often the only thing I have control over.  So this year I will focus even more on creating happiness inside of myself regardless of circumstances.  After all I may be over the hill but I’m not under it yet!

Happy New Year to you all – may you find joy and delight in the small things of life!

Happy New Year, Marty!

And thanks for the great reminder about attitude. It’s huge!
