Where life takes us …

So our newest addition has arrived (well actually he arrived over a month ago I just temporarily dropped off the face of the internet). So now we are a family of 7! Yes 7! I have to repeat that to myself sometimes as it seems shocking to me. 5 boys!

It is so funny as just a little over a decade ago I was saying to myself and others (very adamantly) that I didn’t want to have any children … ever. Now look! And the crazy thing is, they ended up all beng planned (well this last one was a little off schedule). It is so funny how our perspectives change and our realities shift.

It starts with some biological clock that comes out of nowhere. Then with one little one growing you want a sibling for them (their gift, their playmate … if only they saw it in that light). The next child comes into world as ‘we seem to be getting the hang of this parenting thing’ (famous last words). After that was ‘even numbers work better than odd’ (yes not a logical argument but..). This most recent addition stemmed from ‘I am not ready to say no to no more children’ … woops … guess we are having one more sooner than later. Now as I sit here nursing my little guy and think of the deep joy in my slightly chaotic day, I begin to wonder …number 6?

Each of my children are so amazing and unique. And the family seems to just grow to a new level of connection (suprisingly enough). I could not even imagine what my life would be like without even a single one of these guys let alone this experience of family life. Where would I be? These guys have taught me so much, they have pushed me to new heights, they have opened my mind and my heart to so much in this world. I am who I am today because of them. I am a better person, a better me.

So thank you boys. I embrace my very full minivan (bursting is a better description) … and am actually looking forward to the ‘shortbus’.

Congrats on your new addition! We have baby number 5 due on winter solstice 🙂 All very much loved and planned.. I wish more people were able to see the true blessing of having a big family!

I got a little teary eyed reading this. With my kids, they could all be looking at the same thing, but each has a different view of what they saw. I love how I get to look at the world around me through 4 sets of eyes-including my own.
