Youth will be guided by a professional singer and teaching artist, composer and visual artist during this week long camp in the creation of an opera. Using a text provided by teaching artist Eve-Lyn de la Haye, the participants will become the creative team and the performers, as they construct their own opera. Participants will learn about musical forms like the aria and recitative, turn text into lyrics, invent melodies, and design and paint sets. The week finishes with a performance of their new piece for friends and family.
If you have a child who likes to sing, dance, act, loves music, or the visual arts, this is a great place to meet like minded youth and play together. An ability to read music is not required, only enthusiasm for theatrics and a willingness to create.
Youth are encouraged to bring any instruments they can play, as they may be used in the piece.
Enrollment is limited, and registration is now open.
