I believe that 3T is longer than 3X. So if a 3X is too small you could try a 3T.

I thought it was the other way around. I know at Zeller 3x is really close in size to a 4. Old Navy does the T for toddler in their sizes and there is no 3x. I think 3T is the same as 3.

T can also stand for tall - longer arms, etc.
X means wider than normal.... eg for pants it would give a wider waist.

I think sometimes the T is for toddler meaning it will have snaps in pant legs, I have seen pants that are 3T with a snapped crotch, but not a 3X with a snapped crotch. :)

wow...what a confusing topic. 3T seems to be smaller and fit my 3 year old better. 3's fit her too. 3X however, seems to be very big, so maybe that does mean wide and tall :D Thanks for the answers!

I thought it had to do with diapers and allowance for that? Thought 3X had extra allowance in the bum for diapers, and 3T didn't....but then I also remember seeing 6X and assume it doesn't mean the same?!?!? Does anyone know the definitive answer???

I think a 3X virtually the same as a 4, but with allowance for a diaper bum. I believe 3T is 3 TODDLER (think old navy)

I don't think one store would have both 3X and 3T.

I have asked a few stores this question, the answer they gave me is that the T means the pants have enough room for a diaper.

But that wouldn't explain the fact that there are 3T and 4T shirts (which arms I always have to shorten for dd).

The X pants are always too wide for ds..... and they also make X in larger sizes such as 5 and 6.

Depends on the store.

Gymboree, Gap, Please Mum etc use the 3T to mean Toddler.

They may have a size 3 in their "girls" Line and a 3T in their Baby/Toddler line. The T stands for wider in the bum for diapers.

Zellars, Sears, The Bay etc use the more traditional sizing.

1, 2, 3, 3x are the ranges for the "Baby/Toddler"
4, 5, 6, 6x are the ranges for Young Girl
7, 8, 9, 10 etc are the ranges for older Girl.

Cheers,
Lara

I asked this back when I was pregnant and they said that it did not mean tall but toddler with allowance for diapers and usually chubbier bellies.
