Good age for Nancy Drew books?

Postby OnceHarmony on Thu Jul 05, 2012 8:10 pm

I seem to be misjudging when is a good age for DD to be interested in things. There are lots of things that I LOVED as a kid that I think DD will love and then I remember or find out that I was a lot older than DD when I loved them so with that being said I LOVED Nancy Drew books but I remember being older than DD when I read them so I wonder if she would like them now.

What do you think is a good age for being interested in Nancy Drew books?

DD likes mysteries and I would have to read the books to her and since there are no real pictures in the books (or were there none? I can't remember) would she be at all interested I wonder.

The newer series is quite different from the original series. I don't think the new series is as interesting as the original. That said, the newer series seems to appeal to younger children, probably around age 7 and up. The original series I would estimate about 9 years of age and up.

I remember reading the original series ND and Hardy Boys by age 8 for sure (I don't remember when I started specifically), but that was to myself. I may have enjoyed them much younger if they were read to me? :)

I was about 9 for Nancy Drew and didn't enjoy Hardy Boys until about 10.

Thanks everyone.

DD is really enjoying them. Every night she asks me to read them to her. She is also trying to read them herself and there are some big words in there so I'm happy about that.
