Ideas for updating DD's quiet spot?

Postby OnceHarmony on Sat Sep 29, 2012 8:56 pm

I'm updating DD's quiet spot and all I still have so far are books and drawing stuff. I'm sure this is enough but I'd like to have some other things to rotate in and out as needed (meaning mama needs quiet time so she needs to be enticed to her quiet spot -- is this spot for her or me? ).

Can you please share ideas you have of quiet, contemplative things she can have/do in her quiet spot or things you've used in your kids. Thanks. :)

Yarn and plastic canvas cut into shapes or projects she could do on her own

Perplexus Epic, Chess Solitaire, needle-felting supplies (if she's old enough- those needles are sharp!), lego, comic books, ipad with good games on it... What kinds of things does she love to do most?
Reading, writing, unschooling.

I'd recommend:

-Magformers
-Magnetic mosaic boards
-A small basket of assorted yarn for finger knitting (so easy to learn!) or braiding
-A jar of assorted colored stones for her to sort, etc
-A small basket of doll clothes with one or two dolls in it (non barbie, but thats just me lol)
-definitely the needle felting kit - wool, felting needle, thick piece of foam
-a small loom (a pain to string up for prep, but keeps their hands busy while they do the actual weaving)
-puzzles (only one at a time of course) with her favorite theme (cats, fairies, dogs, horses, etc)
-a cd with relatives reading classic fairy tales out loud (takes some extra work, but is so nice!)

That's all I got! Oh - and maybe drape long lengths of silk or netting around her quiet spot to soften the sound around her, give her some privacy etc :) Our dd loves this!
