Kale chips

Postby Braeden's Mom on Fri Mar 01, 2013 5:20 pm

These seem to be oh so popular these days so I gave them a whirl today. I tried a salt and vinegar recipe and was less than impressed. I used too much vinegar for my liking and they turned out flat and wilty looking not like what I've seen on tv. What did I do wrong, oven too hot maybe? I'm willing to give them another shot but with a different recipe. Do you make them? Please share your tried and true recipe before I swear off these things forever :)

You have to watch them like a hawk - they burn so quickly! Also, I find that some batches of kale (for whatever reason) just taste better than others.

That being said, my kids do love kale chips. We do them with just olive oil and sea salt. Roast them in the oven at about 350, checking often, and flipping them a few times. As you flip them, you can feel them getting crispy. When they're done (and they take different times) I whip them out into a bowl and continue to bake the slower ones.

Honestly, they are a bit of work, but so yummy!

Made kale chips and they were awful  it was like eating tiny pcs of paper. Maybe I burnt them but I haven't attempted again!

That's too bad! :(

The ones I made reminded me of potato chips! :-D

LOVE Kale! Just found a great recipe from the Root Cellar's Facebook page for Kale Pesto (they also have posted Kale Chip recipes in the past). I tired it out this weekend - simple and delicious! Such a great, healthy alternative to regular pesto.
The link to the recipe is here!
