Little League Baseball is for everyone!: Challenger

Postby klakay on Sun Apr 07, 2013 9:31 pm

Hi families... Hampton Little League is extending it's reg dates for our Challenger League. Opening Ceremonies are April 14th, and are a lot of fun. Here is more info about Hampton's program:

Player’s will receive (to keep): ball cap, team jersey, team picture, free Hampton “Funday” BBQ meal and a year end award. Games will be 90 minutes in length, every Saturday except May’s long weekend and “Funday;” from April 13th to June 23rd, 2013. Cost is $50 [however Hampton has an everybody plays policy: if a family cannot afford the $50, registration fee will be waived].

Registration for the Challenger program is currently being accepted online at http://www.hamptonlittleleague.org. *Register now as we require a minimum number of Challenger players in order to host the program.

For more information about Hampton’s Little League Challenger Division, contact Kristen Kay at klakay @ shaw.ca. For more information about Hampton Little League, please visit http://www.hamptonlittleleague.org.

The Challenger Division was established in 1989 as a division of Little League to enable boys and girls with special needs, ages 4-18, or up to age 22 if still enrolled in high school, to enjoy the game of baseball along with the millions of other children who participate in this sport worldwide. Today, more than 30,000 children participate in more than 900 Challenger Divisions worldwide.
Teams are set up according to abilities, rather than age. Challenger games can be played as tee ball games, coach pitch, player pitch, or a combination of the three – whatever the players need in order to participate.

The Challenger players wear the same uniforms and equipment as other Little League players; and take part in all the events hosted by the Little League Association.

One of the benefits of having a Challenger Division is that it encourages the use of "buddies" for the Challenger players. The buddies assist the Challenger players on the field, but whenever possible, encourage the players to bat and make plays themselves.
