University of Victoria - Face Camp

Postby DifferentMinds on Mon May 02, 2016 6:04 pm

Face Camp brings together children from the community of Victoria with cutting-edge vision research at University of Victoria. For more than 10 years, Professor Jim Tanaka has been studying how typically developing and autistic children perceive and recognize objects, faces, and emotional expression. Both children on the spectrum and typically developing children are welcome. Children get to spend the day with graduate and undergraduate students playing games, learning how to use computer software used in lab, and participating in fun (and really cool!) research in a real psychology lab! This year, Dr. Tanaka has been recognized in both the local and academic community for developing freely accessible iPad games that help children on the autism spectrum to better recognize faces as well as by the University of Victoria for his ongoing efforts to bring research into the community. The one day camps are FREE, fully inclusive, and include snacks and a pizza lunch. Registration can be done online at or contact parent liaison Alison Campbell for further information at
