Paid Staff instead of Volunteers

Postby turtle on Mon Jun 01, 2015 3:27 pm

After looking at the 2 postings about volunteers or lack of volunteers, I am now wondering how many of you would be willing to pay more for your children's activities (not school-related) so that we could pay the coaches / concession staff / board of directors, etc. It just seems that most organizations are spinning their wheels trying to get people to volunteer for these positions, so one option has been proposed that we start paying our volunteers (which will now become staff of the various organizations).

Would you pay more? Would you do it if you got paid?

Hhhmm

Soccer team of eigh to ten kids. Volunteer opted out fee of $100. New paid coach makes $800-$1000 for 2-3 hours of "work"/week for 7 months?

There may be some takers.

I would not be happy to pay more.

If I can make the time, I volunteer. I volunteered for things before having kids though, so maybe I'm more inclined to volunteer in the first place. If I don't have time, the offer of money to do it would not make a difference.

The opt-out fee in the first reply is an idea.

Are we talking about sport teams?

The activities my DD's in are all paid employees.

I do volunteer at her school as I can and where I can.

Oh, and probably Girl Guides and Scouts (which my DD is not in).

I would be willing to pay more.

Thank you to all the unsung hero volunteers who without you our children's lives would be a lot less wonderful.

My daughters dance teachers are paid.
Her cheer coaches are not and give at least 14 hours a week for practice plus around 10 in the other stuff all unpaid.

My kids football coaches are all not paid the put in at the vary least six hours a week. Each game 4-7 families also need to help out.

Reality is most families could not afford to also pay these volunteers

I would happily pitch in $50 rather than never do another bottle drive !

Most of the activities/sports my kids are in have a mandatory volunteer component, or else you can buy that out for $50 or $90 (depending on the activity).

Our soccer club is $100 posted dated cheque. If you don't volunteer it gets cashed April 1st.
