Moving to Victoria- Oaklands, Tillicum, or George Jay?

Postby Hobeck1 on Thu Oct 27, 2016 11:26 am

hi ladies,

we will be moving to Victoria in April 2017 but we're looking at areas now. i have two school aged kids- 8 yrs and 5yrs and we will buy in the area which has the better school. We're want to live close to downtown so are looking for a 'fixer-upper' in a good neighborhood, so any houses we've already checked out seem to have these three schools as their catchment school: George Jay, Tillicum or Oaklands. I have checked the rankings and they don't fair well but i know a person cannot just rely on that alone.
Does anyone know firsthand if these schools are good or how would i find out? i don't know anyone in Victoria yet :)
Also zero tolerance for bullying in place and actually stick to that (we've had problems with this before) or good social/extra curricular activities?

thank you :-D

Absolutely LOVE Oaklands! Great school and area. My son has Mrs. Bratzer this year for grade one and she is amazing! Good luck.

If I had to choose one of those I would choose Oaklands.

If you are willing to go to Tillicum why don't you try Marigold?

thanks for the replies :-D

it really depends on whether we can find a house in this area, i personally liked Oaklands too!
if we were out of the catchment area for that school, would we still be able to send our kids to Oaklands?

I can believe any scale that scored Oaklands low. It is also in a fab neighbourhood. If you want to live in Langford you best work out there too, unless you love your car. Many school are at capacity - in Langford too - Id consider that as well.
