Quality toys are expensive and children quickly become bored with a toy once its play value has been exhausted. By joining the Toy Library you will be able to meet other parents and have access to a wider range of play experiences for your children. You will be able to increase your children’s interest and offer greater learning opportunities without the expense, clutter and environmental impact of buying more and more toys. Our current stock is for ages 6months-12 yrs of age.

Join Royal Roads University and Camosun College for Edcamp Victoria 2019: Education, Technology & Curiosity Saturday, Nov. 2.
Edcamp brings together K-12 teachers, post-secondary instructors, instructional designers, tech fans, parents, students and community partners to reflect on the new dimensions for curiosity in the classroom opened up by technology.
Edcamp is an “unconference”, which encourages people to “choose with their feet” and freely circulate between discussions circles until they find forums that genuinely engage them. Participants are free to adopt a variety of roles, propose and embrace topics that are directly relevant to their lives and work toward an active cross-pollination of ideas across sectors and fields.
Event lead Frederic Fovet says technology has fundamentally changed the format of pedagogy and the roles of educators, as well as our conceptualization of “knowledge”.
“Tension is at an all-time high between teachers trying to integrate the little technology they master and digital natives who get frustrated with the slow pace of change in classrooms. Supporting teachers through the process of technological integration remains one of the great hurdles of school leadership,” says Fovet, associate professor in Royal Roads University’s School of Education and Technology.
“And yet the future is here and change is irreversibly and pressingly knocking at the door. Bring your own device (BYOD) schools are no longer just the stuff of imagination; artificial intelligence and virtual reality are no longer just things you see in science fiction movies; they have entered the 21st century classroom and we need to urgently figure out how to make these tools efficiently and optimally serve our pedagogical goals.”
The event is free and open to the public. Reserve your spot via Eventbrite. For more information contact: Frederic Fovet by email or call 250-391-2600 ext. 4439.
