RWB School to hold auditions in Victoria on October 20

Victoria, BC – Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet Soloist Sophia Lee is basking in the glow of her crowd-awing performance in this week's world premiere of The Handmaid’s Tale. It's been less than three years since Lee was invited to join the RWB Company Corps de Ballet and already she has been promoted twice, first to Second Soloist and now Soloist. Lee’s phenomenal career success, and that of more than 70% of the dancers in the RWB Company, can be traced back to her decision to audition for the RWB School Professional Division at the age of 15. Since her audition in British Columbia in 2006, Lee has been on the fast-track to fame and her star just keeps on rising.

One of the dance teachers who gave Lee her foundation in ballet is BC local Deborah Cameron (A.R.A.D Teachers Diploma RTS) of Cameron Academy of Classical Dance. “I knew right from the start that Sophia was special. I recommended she audition for the RWB School as I knew that the instruction she would receive in Winnipeg would provide her with the training and the tools to realize her dream of becoming a professional dancer,” said Cameron. “I encourage every young dancer, male or female, with a dream to dance or teach professionally to attend the upcoming auditions.”

“Making the decision to audition for the RWB School set me up for years of success,” said Lee. “Being in an environment with educators that were so technically skilled, so passionate about the art form and so supportive of my personal development played a huge role in my growth as a dancer. The skills I learned at the RWB School not only helped me in the world of dance, but outside of the world of dance as well.”

The next opportunity for students from Victoria and surrounding areas to audition and take class with RWB School faculty takes place in Victoria on October 20 at Ballet Victoria (643 Broughton Street). Those who audition have the opportunity to win a full tuition scholarship for the four week Summer Session taking place in July 2014. A proud supporter of the RWB, Investors Group awards a $2,000 scholarship to an aspiring dancer in every province and territory across Canada. The four-week Summer Session serves as the second phase of the audition process for the full time program.
