It can be difficult being a parent. It is one of the toughest jobs on the planet! It is important to take care of yourself in order to have patience and calm with your children. Parents often neglect their own needs for those of their families and children. This can be a struggle on a daily basis and for some who are perhaps not feeling at their best, it is a challenge just to keep their head above water. Children have many needs. Some thrive on sports and outdoors and have excellent social skills while others have many fears and anxieties and food sensitivities, or just have a hard time fitting in.

As a Naturopathic Doctor I help people cope with their daily lives. Helping parents relax and take a few moments for themselves with CranioSacral therapy. Supporting moms who are driving all around town dropping off and picking up their children from various events, with nutrition and herbs that balance and support their bodies. Calming a child who is anxious with CranioSacral therapy, homeopathy, flower essences and/or nutrition.

Here are some of the treatment modalities I use in my practice:

CranioSacral Therapy:

CranioSacral therapy involves the gentle assessment and manipulation of the bones of the skull and sacrum and the release of fascial restrictions (the fascia is the layer of fibrous tissue that covers the entire body beneath the skin). The ultimate goal being restoration of the CranioSacral rhythm (a rhythmic motion in the body created by the rise and fall of the cerebrospinal fluid throughout the central nervous system), the freeing of restrictions in the body and creating a balanced state of overall wellbeing.  This is a very relaxing treatment and is also suitable for children.

Homeopathy:

The use of remedies made from weak or infinitesimal doses of substances (plant, animal, mineral) that have been potentized (diluted and shaken) to stimulate a natural healing response in an individual with a disease or other health disorder.   Homeopathic remedies are very individualized and involves a thorough history taking.  While this is suitable for individuals of all ages children respond especially well to homeopathic medicines.

Clinical Nutrition:

I believe diet plays a major role in ones health and that a healthy digestive system is paramount to perserving ones state of well-being.  I help patients recognize where changes can be made in this area so they can have a positive outcome in their quest for better health.  I am an avid cook and enjoy helping others produce healthy delicious meals.  I have a particular interest in helping parents manage children's and family nutrition and preparing healthy school lunches and snacks.

Acupuncture:

Insertion of acupuncture needles into various points on the body that are linked to certain organs and systems.   If there is a restriction along an acupuncture meridian (all points of a certain organ or system run along a particular meridian) illness or pain may result.  Needle insertion promotes the flow of Qi (energy) in the body along acupuncture meridians and frees meridian restrictions.

Shonishin:

A non-insertive acupuncture technique that is suitable for children.  It involves a stroking and tapping technique along the acupuncture meridians.

Herbal Medicine:

The use of plant substances (Leaf, Root, Bark) in the treatment of disease or other health disorder.
