ISLAND MONTESSORI is a school for children from two and a half years of age through five years. We are an inclusive school and are proud to have children from a variety of economic and ethnic backgrounds as well as with a whole host of abilities and special needs. Island Montessori opened in September 1973 and hundreds of children have attended over the years!
Montessori education understands that each child has a natural desire and ability to learn. Island Montessori staff are committed to providing a rich, safe, developmentally appropriate, caring environment that establishes rapport with every child. Our child-centred program of individual and group activities promote a sense of well-being, confidence and independence which fosters growth in all areas of development. Our beautiful rural location lends well to connecting to nature with backyard nature walks in a forested area, the interrurban trail and wetlands across the road. Wildlife is often walking/flying through our school grounds.
Island Montessori is operated by a non-profit society, and is a registered charity. The centre is licensed by the Community Care Facilities Licensing Board for 36 children (Group Day Care Licence No. 64007078). Flexible full-day programs. Our Out of School Care Program opens at 7:30 a.m. and closes at 5:30 p.m. for registered students only (at an additional cost). Island Montessori is open September through June each year and closely follows the calendar of the local school district for major breaks and non-instructional or professional development days.
To be champions of inclusive, caring and respectful early childhood education founded on Montessori principles and values.
