Camp Narnia is a BC children’s summer camp in Nanoose Bay, Vancouver Island. Camp Narnia was founded on Salt Spring Island in 1986. The aim of its founders was to provide a camp for children in a rural setting, offering programs that would build new skills and attitudes, enhance self-esteem, develop independence and create a sense of personal well-being and enjoyment.
Camp Narnia operated from 1986-2006 and re-opened for operation last summer. We had an amazing time and are looking forward to another great summer! Narnia’s Camp Director is Victoria teacher and 14 year Narnia staffer, Agnes Bartle. We continue to offer programs where our campers can truly be children, where they can explore and invent, where relationships are built, where they learn to live in community, where imagination is valued and where they create connections to and within the natural world.
Camp Narnia draws its name from The Chronicles of Narnia, a series of children’s books written by C.S. Lewis in the 1950s, in which Narnia is a magical land open only to children. The stories portray basic human values such as responsibility, respect, compassion, joy and loyalty; values that comprise a major part of the camp philosophy.
Camp Narnia is a private, non-denominational camp and is a member of the BC Camping Association and the Canadian Camping Assocation.
